Lower School (Grades 1-6)
The impressionable years between first and sixth grade require a true commitment from students, teacher and families to give each child a sound academic foundation and to develop each child’s unique potential.
The Lower School, located on the Stuart campus, includes a strong academic curriculum in which skills are introduced in grades one and two and then applied in grades three, four, five and six. Independent and group projects, field trips, attractive classrooms, and a broad range of teaching materials support the classroom teachers and assistant teachers. Enrichment classes in art, music, physical education, computer, library and fine arts are offered to encourage the development of the whole child.
Grades three through six benefit from a full time science teacher and from math and reading/language arts. The Academic Center is available for students who need assistance with basic skills and also for those who achieve above grade level in specific areas of the curriculum. Character Education is a focus in the Lower School, with concentration on Conscious Discipline and conflict resolution.
Throughout the school year, numerous programs and presentations give students the opportunity to exercise leadership ability and to hone presentation skills so that they build confidence and a strong self-image.
The Lower School faculty members are highly skilled in teaching not only skills and subject matter but also, and most importantly, the young child.
